Metacommunity Synthesis Award

Eric Sokol's metacommunity synthesis project titled  "A synthesis to identify how metacommunity dynamics mediate community responses to disturbance across the ecosystems represented in the LTER network" was funded by LTER. The project includes ten participants: Eric R. Sokol, Christopher M. Swan, Nathan I. Wisnoski, plus MCMers Byron Adams and Inigo San Gil.  Five other scientists representing a wide array of ecosystems in LTER are the main participants.

Here is a summary of what Eric intents to investigate: Metacommunity ecology considers both the local- and regional-scale factors that influence community assembly. Previous work has identified dispersal, niche differentiation, and habitat heterogeneity as crucial parameters that determine metacommunity dynamics and stability in response to disturbance.
